 Spotlight News

Rotary Club of Barbados South

The three Rotary clubs in Barbados annually host a Mini Model United Nations (MUN) Assembly for secondary school students. MUN exposes students to the topical international issues being addressed by the international community, creates awareness of the substantive considerations attached to those issues as well as the respective country positions taken based on unique national interests by different countries in the General Assembly of the UN.

With just one week to prepare the delegates had their first opportunity to represent their assigned territories on the range of issues impacting their country due to climate change. It was indeed enthralling watching the students personify the territory they represented from the confident stance of the super powers to the negotiating pleas of the developing territories. The sessions continue on Saturday, February 19th and we encourage you to come out and watch the students in action!
The first instalment of the Agrokids Grant Writing Workshop was held on Saturday, 11th February 2023 at the Baobab Towers in Warrens. The session was led by Consultant Ms. Marsha-Ann Clarke and was attended by members of the Rotary Club of Barbados South, the Rotaract Club of South Barbados, the West Terrace Scouts Group and YEA! volunteers. Participants were able to gain knowledge on the GEF Small Grants Programme, its objectives and its expectations of the selected grant awardees. All persons present, were exposed to improved practices in grant writing, monitoring and evaluation.
Pictured above are some of the highlights from our business meeting held on February, 8th 2023.
The article above was taken from Barbados Business Authority on February 13th. The article includes highlights from the presentation topic, Transforming the Workplace - Managing the Change, which was delivered by Paula Walcott, Sagicor's Senior Vice President with responsibility for Human Resources during the recently held 37th Charter Night and Vocational Service Awards Ceremony of the Rotary Club of Barbados South.
The 1st Summer Luau Cruise 2023 Committee meeting kicked off on Friday, 10th February with lots of exciting plans and goodies in the works for the May 20th event. Save the date!
Fellow Rotarians! Yes! It has been confirmed! Jennifer Jones, Rotary International’s first female president has included our beloved Barbados in her tour of duty in February 2023.

She will be our featured guest speaker at a Dinner being hosted by the Rotary Clubs in Barbados to celebrate 118 years of Rotary International, at Mahogany Ridge, St James, February 23rd at 6:00pm. All are invited!

This is an occasion that is not to be missed and we look forward to enjoying it with you!
Rotary International

Turkey and Syria were struck by a devastating earthquake on 6 February that has killed tens of thousands of people, destroyed thousands of homes and other structures, and left people across the region without shelter in bitterly cold winter weather.

The Rotary world responded to this catastrophe immediately. RI President Jennifer Jones activated our disaster response efforts, communicated with the affected districts, and encouraged governors in those regions to apply for disaster response grants and share information about their relief efforts so that Rotary can amplify the calls for support.

Rotary District 7030
Please give to the Disaster Response Fund and help clubs and districts provide disaster recovery and support rebuilding efforts where the need is greatest.
Rotaract Club of South Barbados
The Rotaractors from across the island joined the conversation on Saturday and were very vocal on climate change matters.

They represented their assigned territories brilliantly on the range of issues impacting their country due to climate change and had a lot to say on developmental goals, current trends and the future they would like to see!

We look forward to your support this coming Saturday, February 19th as we continue the conversation.
