Club Meeting Recap - 1st March
Dr. Tamara Nancoo of the Caribbean Sports Orthopaedic Clinic and Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of the West Indies gave a highly enlightening and interactive presentation on Osteoarthritis (“OA”) in Barbados.
Dr. Nancoo simplified symptoms of the disease and how it is currently tackled by medical professionals in Barbados. She also spoke of her experiences in dealing with patients with OA and how pain associated with the incurable disease is managed.
Pictured above are some of the highlights from our "Problems Associated with Osteoarthritis" session held on March 1st, 2023.
On February 28th, PP Katrina attended a tasting evening at the Rotary Club of Beijing. The wine specialist skillfully walked everyone through each drink that was paired with every course for the meal.
The Mini Model United Nations (MUN) Assembly for secondary school students continued on Saturday, 4th March hosted by the three Rotary Clubs in Barbados. During the session the students continued to form alliances with the various country groups and forged a better understanding of the resolution that they will be debating.
Agrokids Project - A visit to Arthur Smith Primary School (ASP) and Vauxhall Primary School (VP) last Thursday, March 2nd, allowed the team to view the gardens, hear the plans going forward for the project, and be advised of the changes in administration for both schools. Above are some of the images captured of the gardens. Kale, eggplant, cabbage and sweet peppers for ASP and the basil plants for VP that permeated the air when the team entered the garden.
Congratulations to our very own Rtn. Kerryann who was featured in the Nation News paper on March 5th in recognition for her trailblazing efforts to improve the lives of people around her, especially persons living with disabilities.
At a school in northern Lebanon, students line up to drink from taps and wash their hands at basins. It’s a luxury that was once rare for schoolchildren here, though the snow-capped mountains that supply much of the country’s water loom not far in the distance.
“Before, the water was not drinkable, it contained many bacteria,” explains Nabila Babetti, principal of the Adnan al-Jisr High School in Tripoli, the country’s second-largest city. Students had to rely on bottled water that was expensive for families to provide. Some were sickened by unsafe water, forcing them to miss days of school.

World Rotaract Week is an annual celebration of the success and importance of Rotaract in communities worldwide. Join us March 12 - 18, 2023, to connect with others and share in our celebrations.
During the week, the four (4) Rotaract Clubs on the island will focus on peacebuilding and conflict prevention, promoting and sensitizing our members and the general public on peace, and the importance of conflict resolution, particularly in our youth. For peace to be sustained, we need to work together as one. As such, we will seek to partner with other youth-led action and service organizations to promote this message. Stay tuned for full details on what is to come!
IPDG Sonya, PE Marcel, President Graham and PRO Khrystal visited with Interact QC as they recognized the RI area of focus Peace through creating origami doves and visiting the recently planted Peace Pole at QC.
