Fellow Rotarians, after two years of 'lockdowns' and echoes of 'unprecedented times', the Summer Luau Cruise is BACK!
Saturday, May 20th at 5PM onboard the MV Dream Chaser
General tickets are $80 and could be ordered by contacting a number below:
Your usual support in spreading the word and promoting the cruise would be appreciated as the proceeds of the Summer Luau Cruise goes towards the club's Back to School project.
On Tuesday, April 4th, the Vauxhall Primary School in Christ Church was renamed the Shirley Chisholm Primary School. In honour of the late American politician who in 1968 became the first black woman to be elected to the United States Congress.
A garden was established where a bust of Shirley Chisholm and a double-sided mural depicting her life story are located. The other half of the garden is an agricultural plot where the school children use to grow produce. This project is part of the Rotary Club of Barbados South's Owen Arthur Agrokids Programme.
On April 2nd, Rtn. Kerryann Ifill, President of the Barbados Council for the Disabled was a member on a panel with Prof Dwayne Devonish, PhD, Management and Organizational Behaviour and Mr. Edmund Hinkson, M.P., Chairman - The Advisory Committee for Improving the Lives of People with Disabilities on The People's Business. Ronald Kasule caught polio when he was 3 years old. The disease left him paralyzed. Seeing that the boy could neither walk nor feed himself, his father intended to end his son’s life before he became a burden to the family. “My parents had fierce arguments over me,” he recalls. “In the end, my mother prevailed. She made the tough decision of divorcing my father to save my life.”
The family lived in Kisubi, a village about 60 miles southwest of Uganda’s capital, Kampala. His mother sold practically everything the family owned to search for a cure. When treatment failed, she came up with many creative ways to train her son at home so he could live independently.
